About us

Dahab Cats is a small volunteer-run community non-profit charity in Dahab, a town on the Gulf of Aqaba in South Sinai, Egypt.

Our main focus is to treat sick, injured, vulnerable, abandoned cats and kittens and find forever homes for them. We also have cat hotel fac for owned cats and kittens while their owners are travelling or waiting for their pets to be ready to travel.

Gillian is the founder of Dahab Cats. Retired, and Originally from the UK, she lived and worked as a Change Consultant, around the world before settling in Dahab in 2017. She’d never owned a cat but one day a young lady brought her a tiny kitten that needed saving so she took him in and cared for him. She soon fell in love with his gentle character and loving ways and so started to help more cats and kittens, and went on to establish a sanctuary to care for sick, injured and vulnerable cats and kittens.

There are now 2 sanctuaries in the Assalah area of Dahab; one is run by a team of volunteers from around the world who come to work between 2 and 6 weeks and one is managed by Gillian with support from Francis, Laura & Anas.

Gillian is the driving force behind the cat shelter. As the owner, she has a clear overview of the entire organization, ensuring everything runs smoothly. Each day, she assesses the needs of the cats. She decides which cats are ready for adoption and which may need rehoming. She organize fundraising for financial support of the shelter, allowing us to provide medications and care for the cats in need. She also recruits volunteers, interviewing them to build a good team.

Ahmed is the Egyptian housekeeper who oversees both places when Gillian is away. His responsibilities include keeping the houses clean and keeping cleaning products and medication in stock.

Anas is the medical manager. He coordinates the daily operations of the shelter, ensuring that everything runs smoothly. He is responsible for training, and supervising staff and volunteers, ensuring that all team members are well-equipped to provide care for the cats. Additionally; he is responsible for all medical tasks and healthcare for the cats.

Laura (me) manage the website and Instagram, making sure they have a good online presence. I also design vouchers and tickets for events to attract support. I keep track of the cats their medication, make sure they stay healthy. When I’m in Holland, I help Anas, (my husband I met 2 years ago in here) with everything he needs. When I’m there, I take on the same things that he does, making sure the cats get the care they need. ❤
